Teeth, Tongue, Gums Exam And Cleaning
During a dental exam, Dr. Busselman examines your pet's gums, teeth, tongue, plaque & tartar, loose or fractured teeth, tumors, infection, dental abnormalities and disease.  Poor dental health can cause pain, weight loss, liver, kidney, heart disease, and even death.  We provide dental cleanings, tooth extraction, and tumor surgery.

Surgery

Dr. Busselman is a skilled surgeon.  He offers various surgeries including: spay, neuter, declaw, lumpectomy, mastectomy, cyst and tumor removal, eyelid tacking, anal sac excision, orthopedic along with general exploratory.

Prior to surgery we perform a physical exam and a series of screenings to help ensure that the patient is in good health for anesthesia.  A Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), or veterinary nurse, monitors the surgery patient using a Pulse Oximeter, Respirator Monitors and an EKG.  The nurse recovers the patient and pain medication is always administered.

External and Internal Parasites
We recommend annual fecal screenings for parasites such as roundworms, giardia, hookworms, tapeworms, and whipworms.  Some of these can be transmitted to humans and can be very dangerous to children in particular.  A blood test is needed to screen for heartworms, which can infest your pet's heart and cause severe illness & death.

Skin and Coat Analysis
A thorough check of your pet's coat and skin will give Dr. Busselman a good indication of your pet's overall health.  He will check for warts and tumors, as well as signs of allergies, nutritional needs, infections, fleas, ticks, and other parasites.

Reproductive Organs
Your pet's reproductive system will be examined for lumps, swelling, and discharge.  It is in your pet's best interest to be spayed or neutered to reduce the risks of breast, testicular and prostate cancer, birthing complications, accidents and mishaps due to roaming, and unwanted litters.

Blood Chemistries, Electrolytes, and general CBC
Routine blood chemistries provide information concerning your pet's vital organs such as the liver, gall bladder, kidneys, pancreas, parathyroid, thyroid, and the intestines.

The blood electrolytes help Dr. Busselman evaluate causes of vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration and heart symptoms.  Hematology examines the amount of red blood cells (RBC), which carry oxygen to the cells.  It is used to diagnose anemia.

The Complete Blood Count (CBC), examines detailed information of Red Blood Cells (RBC), White Blood Cells (WBC), which fight infection, and platelets, which play a major role in blood clotting.

Isoflurane Anesthetic Machine
Our surgeries are done using gas anesthetics.  The benefit of gas is seen primarily in the in the speed of induction and recovery.  The safety of this type of anesthesia decreases the time under anesthesia which reduces the risk to your pet.

Laboratory On-site
Our new state-of-the-art Heska Laboratory allows us to obtain quick results on any serum and blood tests which we run in-house.

Comprehensive Wellness Exams
Our Comprehensive Wellness Exams are performed on a semi-annual schedule which can help your pet to live a longer, healthier life. Because dogs and cats age much more quickly than humans, an exam that is performed only once a year is similar to you visiting your doctor every 6-8 years for a check-up.

Radiology and Ultrasound on Site
We utilize modern radiographs (x-rays) to provide the doctor with additional internal information about our patients. We also have access to an on call ultrasonographer which can perform an ultrasound usually within 24-48 hours.

Portable ECG (Electrocardiogram)
When your pet is undergoing general anesthesia for any procedure, he or she is always monitored with an ECG monitor, respiratory monitor and pulse oximeter. Your pet's vital signs are monitored by a certified nurse who relays the information to the doctor.

We also have the capability to do ECG screenings as part of the comprehensive physical examination. This is a painless, non-invasive procedure which can be done right in the exam room. It can alert the doctor to a cardiac problem before other signs occur.
